Metal halide lamps create high-quality atmospheres as they combine a good colour rendering capacity with the possibility of selecting the most appropriate colour temperature. For this reason they are selected in applications where these aspects are critical, such as places where television broadcasts will take place, shop windows in main thoroughfares or shops displaying quality products, squares and avenues in large cities, industries which require good colour rendering, etc.
They are available in a full power range from 35 to 2,000 W.
Their operation requires auxiliary equipment for switching on and stabilising the discharge. Around 10 minutes must elapse from the moment they are switched on for these lamps to reach the nominal conditions in terms of intensity, luminosity, shade, etc.; if the supply is switched off, hot restart requires at least 15 minutes.
These lamps project very focused light and can therefore cause glare. To prevent this, they are almost always housed in projectors to reduce luminance.

The use of fluorescent lamps is widespread in all sectors. Despite the fact that they have been around for many years, this is one of the types of lamps that has evolved the most since its launch. The lighting efficiency, shade, colour rendering, size, design, etc. have all been improved.
Today, the solutions based on the use of fluorescent lamps for indoor lighting provide the best performance in spaces with heights up to 5-6 metres, as long as décor requirements allow for this.
The following fluorescent lamps are considered to be high-efficiency:
- 16 mm in diameter, both linear and folded (the smaller the diameter, the higher the efficiency).
- Those which reduce the power while maintaining the dimensions ("Eco"). The resulting energy saving amounts to 10-15% by simply replacing the tubes.
- Compact lamps with electronic ballast, for direct replacement of incandescent bulbs.
Together with the evolution of the lamps, high-frequency electronic ballasts have enabled the system's energy usage to be reduced considerably, while facilitating the application of flexible regulation and control systems.
